Our History

Jeffreys Bay which is well known for international surfing, started out as a fishing village. Joseph Jeffery erected the first wood and iron warehouse near the Kabeljouws River in 1849. From there on Jeffreys Bay developed steadily, and in 1865 Mr George Pell, a trader, innkeeper and artisan, bought plot no 31 in Jeffreys Bay. He made a name for himself in the building trade. William Pell was born in 1870. He was destined to play a significant role in the future development of Jeffreys Bay. Mr Pell’s existing residence, which now trades as Mr Pell’s House (accommodation@jbay) has been renovated in such a way that it showcases the history of the old building , but incorporates also a fresh Mediterranean ambience
